Minä Perhonen
Posted 12/12/2010 December 2010
Minä Perhonen was launched in 1995, the brainchild of Japanese clothing
and textile designer Akira Minagawa. The name originates from Finnish;
with Minagawa being heavily influenced by the lifestyle and culture of
the Scandinavian country; and translates as ‘I Butterfly’, a reference
to his wish to “make many beautiful designs like those of butterflies’
wings”.

The design process begins with sketches which are then made into original fabrics, each Minä Perhonen collection being built upon the principle of durable design with an aesthetic merit independent of seasonal trends. Characterised by an inherently feminine and naïve style and impeccable attention to detail; buttons are often individually hand finished, hems intricately scalloped; Minagawa’s timeless designs combine Scandinavian and Japanese influences to unique effect.
Minä Perhonen is exclusive to Couverture in the UK.
