Satomi Kawakita is a Japanese jewellery designer living and working in
New York. The daughter of a dressmaker, Kawakita became fascinated by
design and the creative process from an early age. Having originally
studied art in Japan and worked as a glass blower, Kawakita later moved
to New York to study jewellery design, working as a professional diamond
setter for 7 years.

Inspired by the freedom of expression found in New York, “Here in the US, originality is more important…everyone has a different look, different ideas, and we are proud of it”, in 2008 Kawakita launched her own eponymous collection of jewellery, “Satomi Kawakita”. Each piece combines an unusual organic sense of beauty with impeccable craftsmanship, “I get inspired by many things…by plants, architecture, geometric shapes, graphic designs and also textures of fabric, paper…I really like something imperfect and something you can feel the ‘human touch’.”
Satomi Kawakita jewellery is exclusive to Couverture in the UK.
