Kent based ceramicist Michaela Gall is renowned for her hand painted domestic ware designs. Working from a converted stable she uses as a studio, Gall works in maiolica, a ceramic technique originating in Renaissance Italy where a tin glaze is applied over an earthenware base. With a background in illustration and painting having trained at Chelsea School of Art, Michaela progressed to working with pottery after taking classes for years and enjoying the freedom the medium brings.

“I like the moment of distortion where you can sort of pull it into any shape, make it crooked or off centre; I like that sort of elasticity and flux. I’m not aiming for perfection you can buy that in Ikea.

To mark our 15th anniversary, we have commissioned Gall to create a range of hand painted ceramics depicting fashion industry greats in her archetypal folk influenced style. Her humorous and playful portraits of Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace, Vivienne Westwood and more, are fitting to coincide with London Fashion Week, 12th – 16th of September.

With a background in sculpture and a passion for conceptual art and crafts, Canadian designer Wing Yau unintentionally fell into jewellery design. Whilst experimenting and making small gestural sculptures, Wing realised they could be refined and naturally translated into jewellery. WWAKE was established in 2011.

Each WWAKE item is handmade and is a combination of unexpected shapes and stone settings which complement and relate to one another. The metal work often retains the artist’s fingerprints; a subtle detail which upholds the brand values of craftsmanship.
