Starting out as a small shop on the King’s Road, Couverture began by sourcing beautifully made pyjama sets and bed linens. 20 years later, the company has developed from a niche boutique into a reputed stockist of globally sourced, independent designers. To mark the 20th anniversary of Couverture, founder Emily Dyson-Paley has designed a limited-edition pyjama set to commemorate the brand’s beginnings.
Emily’s inspiration for Couverture began when recognising a gap in the market for exquisitely crafted bed linen, searching for inimitable designers and unparalleled craftsmanship. Enthused by the talent that she found, over the years Emily grew her company to include womenswear, accessories and most recently homeware. The Couverture brand soon became a champion of emerging and independent labels with a story to tell, selecting carefully curated collections to perfectly embody the ‘shop independent’ philosophy that both Couverture and the Garbstore stand by. In accordance with the company’s new direction, Emily decided that Couverture needed fresh surroundings and proceeded to search over the next three years for the perfect new home. Finding the building of a former timber yard on Kensington Park Road right in the heart of Notting Hill, Emily joined forces with her husband, menswear designer Ian Paley, to create what is now known as Couverture & The Garbstore.
This Friday, the company celebrated 20 years of success by throwing an intimate breakfast party on the shop floor. With invitees including loyal customers, friends and family who have continually shown support over the years towards Emily’s vision, they became the first to view the limited-edition pyjama set designed by Emily herself.
Based on the design of a twenty-pence piece to signify the twenty years of Couverture, the set features an original watercolour spot print, printed onto a pure cotton poplin in inky indigo tones. Made in Portugal, the design has been built on a traditionally masculine button-up silhouette, with a chest patch pocket and elasticated wide-leg trouser, softened by a double-scalloped collar. Never one to forgo on finishing touches, each pyjama set is also presented in a cotton drawstring gifting bag featuring the original print.
These days, Couverture & The Garbstore is renowned for its diverse selection of cult, international labels, limited edition collaborations and exclusive products, while still taking pride in the beginnings which built the foundations of today’s brand.
The anniversary pyjama set is limited to 500 pieces and is available now online and in our store - discover below:
