We are proud to be the sole stockist of Japanese brand Mina Perhonen in the UK. Genius designer Akira Minagawa?s accessories and clothes feature original fabrics (he designs himself) with narrative qualities. In his own words "motifs are taken from everyday scenes, or landscapes seen on my travels. To me the most important thing is not so much the design, as endowing the fabric with the exhilaration I feel as I sketch." Akira Minagawa graduated from the famous Bunka Fashion College in Japan and worked as a pattern cutter before setting up his own label, Minä Perhonen in 1995. The name originates from Finnish, Minagawa being heavily influenced by the lifestyle and culture of that country, and translates as ?I Butterfly?, his aim being ?to make many beautiful designs like those of butterflies wings.? Minä Perhonen collections are built on the principles of durable design, the clothes do not change radically each season but rather evolve, with fabrics re-used and elements re-worked. Bird bird A continuation on "bird". Embroidering some of the eight coloured birds in cotton and some in rayon also varied them in lustre Bird A flock of migrating birds in myriad colours. The aim was to portray different individuals merging as a single entity. Bavarois A soft fluffy surface resembling the mousse-like French dessert. Loosely woven pale tones, with wool for the warp and nep yarn made by twisting cashmere, silk and wool for the weft.
