Fort Makers

Renowned for their functional and interactive art, Fort Makers is a creative artist collective based in Brooklyn, New York. Adopting a multi-disciplinary approach to design, the group produce large-scale public art installations as well as a wide variety of fashion and home products. Each piece reflects the unique hand of the artist and the energy and inspiration of the group. Creative director Nana Spears co-founded the design house in in 2008 after a chance meeting in a local bar with painter Naomi Clark. With the addition of Woodworker Noah Spencer and Project Manager and Jewellery Designer Elizabeth Whitcomb, the collective was complete. Nana’s belief that “four brains are better than one”, is key to the success of the brand. The group often go on trips to visit famous art, architecture and nature and incorporate their work into spontaneous photo shoots. “Last time we took out nineteen blankets and did a big photo shoot. Just to see them out of New York, and out of the studio. So that's part of what we do constantly, to have that as part of the aesthetic.” Couverture stocks Fort Makers hand painted silk cushions by painter Naomi Clark and they are available in-store at Couverture
