Japanese designer Keizo Shimizu established Nepenthes as a clothing distributer in 1988, prior to opening the infamous Tokyo menswear emporium of the same name. Nepenthes is now the masthead to an umbrella of cult sub-brands - Engineered Garments may be the best known, but Needles - the in-house label from Japan has quietly garnered a dedicated cult following. The collection is created from the very personal viewpoint of Shimizu, without compromise and using the best manufacturers available, constantly offering new materials and patterns. The quirkiness of Needles allows it to escape being pigeonholed into any one category and is exactly why so many guys with unique style love it. Assembled in Japan, the collection reworks pre-owned garments into original pieces, transforming deadstock into avant-garde and deconstructing mostly American military surplus garments, prime examples of which are this season's Shooter and Coach Jackets, with the reverse constructed from a military jacket front with functional pockets and a button-down front. The Arrow Jacket offers a subtler, arguably smarter option whilst still featuring the distinctive Needles detailing throughout. This deep olive medium cotton weight twill jacket features embroidered arrow heads, button-down front with tonal buttons and collar with revere. For a captivating interplay of sophisticated colour and artistic pattern, the 4 Patch Jacket offers a floral overshirt option, cut from a lightweight printed linen. View more from the brand here.
