Unlikely Style Icons: Sweatshirts

Unlikely Style Icons: Sweatshirts
Perhaps the lesser known cousin of the more-favoured and insta-famous wardrobe essentials such as the graphic tee or dad-core sneakers, the humble sweatshirt deserves as many accolades in its own right. As its popularity and demand has spanned through various generations, rich in heritage and history, the sweatshirt jersey should be a celebrated and championed sartorial staple.
In its origins, the humble sweatshirt dominated US college campuses: track, football and lacrosse teams and also commonly worn by marines and soldiers. The durability and functionality of the garment was paramount in production. For example, the front and back would be made from the same pattern so you could flip it when the front became dirty. The classic ‘V’ on the neckline keeps the neckline intact as you put the sweatshirt on, while the loopback interior is ideal for sweat absorption and keeping your body cool. A great alternative to a knitted sweater or pullover, the epitome of comfort and ease.
