Introducing: Shrimps SS22

Hannah Weiland’s London-based label Shrimps was born in 2013 and quickly became known for her statement faux fur coats that have taken the runway by storm. Since then, the brand has been leading the conversation on cruelty-free fashion without compromising on style, creating a cocktail of romantic silhouettes, whimsical prints and luxury fabrics. We take a glimpse into her new Spring Summer 2022 pieces that have just arrived at Couverture.

Sustainability

As a small independent brand, Shrimps are currently working on achieving true sustainability in all areas, starting with a cruelty-free, ethical approach to fashion, which includes not using animal leather or fur in any product.

Instead, the label often uses Scottish wool, a natural, long-lasting material with self-cleaning properties. For PF20 and AW20, Shrimps debuted several innovative fabrics made from recycled fibres, including recycled wool outerwear and a recycled polyester faux-sheepskin.

Manufacturing

Shrimps have established long-standing relationships with artisans and craftspeople to ensure collections are held at a high standard. All beaded accessories are made by hand in an Indian factory combining technical innovations with traditional techniques.

The label also works with a number of London-based artisans for both sampling and production, to reduce shipping impact whilst also supporting independent local businesses.

Inspiration

Spring/Summer 22

SS22 is inspired by life by the ocean, including beachside leisurewear, notably from the Victorian era. The collection features nautical motifs such as embroidered entwining ropes, checker boards, innovative fishnet crochet techniques and whimsical mythologically inspired prints.

Sailor style silhouettes feature throughout the collection, including oversized, sculptural collars and pleated skirts in colour palettes of deep red, navy blue, cream and sand tones.
